season 1: 2020
Anypl(Ace) by August Buck (they/them)
Season 1 Episode 1 |
This very first episode of the podcast was recorded live February 28th, 2020 at the Beaverton Community Center. Buck's coming of age story focuses on two high school students working to understand their relationships to themselves, each other, disability, and the world at large. This play is a very thoughtful piece about queer identity, the meaning of love, and what happens when we're forced to grow up too fast. This piece was directed by Lyla Meadows, and features the voice talents of Avery Kester and Jenna Cady.

Dead Girl Dancing by Avery Kester (they/he)
Season 1 Episode 2 |
Episode 2, recorded June 15th, 2020 over Zoom. This was our first fully virtual episode of the podcast, which we had originally planned to have recorded live, and represents a departure from our previous recording of Anypl(Ace). Dead Girl is the only play in this season to not have been selected from the 2019 Queer Playwrights Contest and is written by our very own Avery Kester. In this ensemble driven piece, Kester pulls together storytelling methods from the Greeks and American Verbatim Theatre to create a haunting story of systemic and intimate violence against women. This piece was directed by Avery, and features the voice talents of Lyla Meadows, Jenna Cady, Jojo Miller, and guest stars Lindsay Partain, Elliot Lorenc, Gray Ashford, and Steph Landtiser.

The Place that Made You by Darcy Parker Bruce (they/them)
Season 1 Episode 3 |
Episode 3, Recorded August 20th, 2020 over Zoom. Bruce’s piece was the winner of our 2019 queer playwrights contest, and was originally slated for full production. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we have had to table this production, but are looking forward to getting this amazing play up on the main stage once we are able to safely due so. In the meantime, we were able to record a reading of this piece for our podcast so we could help to share this amazing story. In this retelling of Jonah and the Whale, Bruce guides us through the private lives and traumas of their two main characters. Ghosts and booze, whales and wars, the telling of this story is raw and intimate. This piece was directed by Avery Kester, and features the voice talents of Lyla Meadows, Jenna Cady, Gray Ashford, and guest stars Bob Stevens and Calvin Porterfield.

The Resurrectionist by Ryan Stevens (they/them)
Season 1 Episode 4 |
Episode 4, Recorded on October 29th, 2020 over Zoom. Stevens’ lesbian zombie rom-com has a lot of heart and a lot of rotting flesh, and we knew the instant we read it that we had to bring this story to a wider audience. This episode marks the first livestream of Theatre Viscera’s podcasts. That livestream was held over Facebook on October 30th. This piece was directed by Lyla Meadows, and features the voice talents of Avery Kester, Jenna Cady, Lindsay Partain, and guest star Ellen Margolis.
